ONE SOLITARY
LIFE

|
He was born in an obscure village
The child of a peasant woman
He grew up in another obscure village
Where he worked in a carpenter shop
Until he was thirty
He never wrote a book
He never held an office
He never went to college
He never visited a big city
He never travelled more than two hundred miles
From the place where he was born
He did none of the things
Usually associated with greatness
He had no credentials but himself
He was only thirty three
His friends ran away
One of them denied him
|
He was turned over to his enemies
And went through the mockery of a trial
He was nailed to a cross between two thieves
While dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing
The only property he had on earth When he was dead
He was laid in a borrowed grave
Through the pity of a friend
Nineteen centuries have come and gone
And today Jesus is the central figure of the human race
And the leader of mankind's progress
All the armies that have ever marched
All the navies that have ever sailed
All the parliaments that have ever sat
All the kings that ever reigned put together
Have not affected the life of mankind on earth
As powerfully as that one solitary life

Jesus Christ is
the Son of God. He boldly declared 2000 years ago that He was the only way to
Heaven. Many other spiritual leaders through the ages and presently say there
are numerous ways to Heaven. However, only Jesus Christ took our place on the
Cross to bear our sins. No other spiritual leader made such a sacrifice. "We
have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." (Rom. 3:23) Since
God is Holy, we must be holy to be in His Presence. No man who ever lived, lives
now or will live in the future can ever be good enough to be in the Presence of
God. So, the Father sent His Son Jesus, "the image of the invisible
God (Col. 1:15), His very Word, to earth and He shed His Blood on the Cross
to make Atonement for our sins. He died and was resurrected and "was seen by
over 500 witnesses" (1 Cor. 15:6). Because He conquered sin and the grave,
we can also be saved from sin and conquer the grave through accepting Him as
Lord and Savior.
"For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him will not die
but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
"He is the image of the invisible
God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created
that are in heaven and are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him
and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
And He is the head of the Body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn
from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased
the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile
all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven,
having made peace through the blood of His Cross. And you, who once were
alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled.
In the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and
above reproach in His sight." (Ephesians 1:15-22)
QUOTES
"Well then, I will tell you. Alexander,
Caesar, Charlemagne and I myself have founded great empires; but upon what did
these creations of our genius depend? Upon force. Jesus alone founded His empire
upon love, and to this very day millions will die for Him.... I think I
understand something of human nature; and I tell you, all these were men, and I
am a man: none else is like Him; Jesus Christ was more than man.... I have
inspired multitudes with such an enthusiastic devotion that they would have died
for me.... but to do this it was necessary that I should be visibly present with
the electric influence of my looks, my words, of my voice. When I saw men and
spoke to them, I lighted up the flame of self-devotion in their hearts....
Christ alone has succeeded in so raising the mind of man toward the unseen, that
it becomes insensible to the barriers of time and space. Across a chasm of
eighteen hundred years, Jesus Christ makes a demand which is beyond all others
to satisfy; He asks for that which a philosopher may seek in vain at the hands
of his friends, or a father of his children, or a bride of her spouse, or a man
of his brother. He asks for the human heart; He will have it entirely to
Himself. . . (Napoleon Bonaparte)
"I am a historian, I am
not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher
from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is
easily the most dominant figure in all history." (H. G. Wells)
"Buddha never claimed to be God.
Moses never claimed to be Jehovah. Mohammed never claimed to be Allah.
Yet Jesus Christ claimed to be the true and living God. Buddha simply
said, "I am a teacher in search of the truth." Jesus said, "I am the
Truth." Confucius said, "I never claimed to be holy." Jesus said,
"Who convicts me of sin?" Mohammed said, "Unless God throws his cloak of
mercy over me, I have no hope." Jesus said, "Unless you believe in me, you
will die in your sins." (Unknown)
"As a child I received instruction both in
the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the
luminous figure of the Nazarene...No one can read the Gospels without feeling
the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word.
No myth is filled with such life." (Albert Einstein)
What
did Napoleon Bonaparte say about Jesus?
Napoleon I (1769 -1821) was the emperor of France and one of
the greatest military commanders of all time. Napoleon knew
about shaping history!
"I
know men and I tell you that Jesus Christ is no mere man.
Between him and every other person in the world there is no
possible term of comparison. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne,
and I founded empires but on what did we rest the creations
of our genius? Upon force.
Jesus Christ founded His empire upon love; and at this hour
millions of people would die for Him."
2
"Everything in Christ astonishes me. His spirit overawes
me, and His will confounds me ... I search in vain in
history to find the similar to Jesus Christ, or anything
that can approach the gospel."
